The prominence of this place is that the Lord here is believed to have emerged out from the roots of this Khadri tree also called as “Maddi” tree in Telugu. The Lord s consort Sri Maha Laxmi Devi is in the adjoining sanctorum and is called as Sri Amrutha Valli Ammavaru. The construction of this temple of Narasimha Swami is said to have been commenced during the regime of Paschima Chalukyas and completed during the time of Vijayanagar rulers.If you get time to stay for some time and perform abhishekam (anointing the God as a part of religious ceremony) to the deity, don t forget to observe the water droplets trickling out continually as they are being wiped off.
History : According to the legends of The Temple, after exterminating Hiranyakashipu, Lord Narasimha, pacified by the prayers of His devotee Prahalad, shuns his frightening form and appears in a protecting form. Thus, the deity at Kadiri symbolizes this transformational phase of the Lord.
Reaching Kadri: This place can be well reached by road, rail and air.
Kadiri is situated about 92kms from Anantapur and 100kms fromPuttaparthi. There are regular buses from these places. Also you can reach here from Bangalore which is 185kms away from Kadiri. Cuddapah and Mandanapalle are at a distance of 130kms and 85kms respectively.There is a good railway network passing through Kadiri. The nearest aerodrome is in Puttaparthi, which is connected to major cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai.
When you are going from Hyderabad to Penukonda you need to take the Bangalore road. After crossing Kurnool (210km), take the Bangalore highway from the Bypass road without entering Kurnool. You will cross ullinda Konda, Veldurthi, Dhone, Kotha Kota, Gooty and Anantapur. From Anantapur follow the NH205 towards Kadiri. The journey from Anantapur to Kadiri is of about 1hr 30minutes to 2 hours when driving on your own.
